Google launches a tablet designed for graphic design and the education sector
With a built-in Wacom pen and support for creative applications, will the recently launched Google tablet called Chrome OS become the new reference device for designers?
Google met face to face on March 26 with Apple when it released the first tablet to run Chrome OS. Launched as a rival to the iPad, the Acer Chromebook Tab 10 was unveiled a day before Apple’s educational event in Chicago.
In this event Apple revealed its own range of affordable and educationally focused tablets. It is not one that is left behind, the Google tablet driven by the Chrome operating system goes hand in hand with its competitor in both performance and price.
The best tablet for designers
Like the iPad, the Tab 10 features a 9.7-inch, 2048 x 1536 screen. It also comes with cameras that face both the front and back, an OP1 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. A USB-C port, a headphone jack and a microSD slot complete the package. With an estimated time of nine hours of battery life, the Tab 10 is perfect for walking without thinking about the plugs.
One of the outstanding features of Tab 10 is that it also has stylus support. This comes in the form of a built-in Wacom EMR stylus that, unlike the Apple Pencil, does not require charging. It’s a cunning move, especially considering that Tab 10 supports Adobe Illustrator Draw.
Apple has it difficult
With a price of only $ 329, the Tab 10 could be a bit more expensive than some Chromebooks, which tend to start at less than $ 300. For schools that are already used to working with Chrome OS after a tablet, this is still an attractive price. And it is also exactly the same price as Apple’s iPad for consumers.
There’s nothing to do, Apple announced at its Field Trip educational event that the iPad 2018 will support the Apple Pencil. This is an important update for the line, since previously the iPad Pro was the only device that was compatible with the peripheral.
The ability to use the Apple Pencil with an iPad makes the tablet an educational tool more desirable than the iPad Pro, and puts pressure on the Tab 10.
As for the Tab 10, we can expect to see it launched on the market in North America during April, with a global release ready for May.
